What is a car battery charger and starter?
How does the car battery charger and starter work?
Before anything, you need to charge the car battery charger and starter. When your car battery is empty, connect the charger and starter cables to the battery and turn on the device. After a few seconds (with a starter), your car engine starts easily.
Reasons for emptying the car battery
- There is a problem with the car’s alternator: keeping the battery charged in the car is the task of the alternator. If the alternator is healthy, it should charge the battery between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. If the alternator is charged less than this limit, the battery will be empty and prevent the car from starting. If the alternator is charged more than this limit, the car battery will be seriously damaged and even the battery will be completely destroyed. To avoid this problem, check the battery charge once in a while.
- Stealing electricity: The concept of stealing electricity means that when the car is off, ampere is drawn from its battery. This causes the car battery to drain. There is a possibility that something is left on or a part may be defective.
- Damaged battery: To detect power theft or battery damage, you must disconnect the negative end of the battery when turning off the car. When starting the car and after a few hours, reconnect the negative end of the battery to it and then start it. If the car does not start, it is due to battery failure, and if it starts, it is due to stolen electricity.
Several methods to charge the car battery
The best and safest way to charge the battery is to use a car battery charger and starter. The advantages of this method are the existence of the least risk. Starter and charger devices are available in the market with different speeds. Using this product to charge the car battery prevents battery damage and makes the battery last longer.
At home, you can charge the battery using the charger and starter of the car battery and household electricity. Car battery starter and charger has the ability to recharge some old and failed batteries. When there are still 2 amps left in the battery, it is necessary to charge it.
Car battery charging with city electricity
Using a home inverter to charge the car battery takes less time than the car battery charger and starter. But it is not appropriate to use this method regularly. In order to charge the car battery with city electricity and at home, you will need a power supply whose voltage is at least 14 and its capacity is 2 to 5 amps. In addition, you need another device with the ability to create electrical resistance.
In order to control the process, it is necessary to put a multimeter in the circuit.
To connect all the devices to the electrical circuit, you will need soldering iron, copper wire, insulating tape and a solder. If you want to charge the car battery at home, make sure that you have taken proper precautions and avoided overcharging the battery.
Note that if you do not have the necessary skills, be sure to buy a battery charger or take the discharged battery to a mechanic for recharging.
Battery charging with alternator from the car
As we mentioned in the text above, the car’s alternator produces electricity, and this energy can be the reason for recharging the battery. Imagine the car battery drains while you are driving. At this time, if your car has a healthy alternator, it has the ability to recharge the battery.
But if the car turns off while driving, it means that both the battery and the alternator are not working. One of the signs of alternator failure is a torn belt, which prevents electricity from reaching the battery. For new and fresh batteries, the charging time is between one and ten hours, and for old batteries, twenty hours.
To charge the battery with the alternator, you can leave your car on for half an hour or more.
